The Best of 1970 clothing

The 1970 clothing is characterized by two main styles: The disco and the punk fashions. These were two clothe styles that appeared during the same decade. They two responded to different contexts. That is, both styles acquired the characteristics of the mood of people and their situation. Both fashions are still very influential to our modern world of fashion as many trends still remain and are considered highly fashionable. Below you will find a better explanation to the appearance of these two fashions of the 1970's.

Disco Style

The disco style was a 1970 clothing trend that appeared as a social explosion. During the 70’s, women were already introduced to the work market, and just as men, they worked from nine to five. So much energy was wasted during the week that the weekends became essential. The weekends became the only days of our lives that we could enjoy ourselves without the stress of our work. People began to go out more, and Saturdays nights became the night to have fun and forget about work.

Saturdays night soon became sacred, and new 1970 clothing fashions started to appear as a result. People wanted to make the most out of their Saturdays nights. It was only one day a week that they could truly have fun, and for this reason, they begun to give too much importance to this day. If they were going out, they wanted to wear the best 1970 clothing they had, otherwise, when would they do it? During the week, they had to wear uncomfortable uniforms that made them look bad.

Their need to look good gave place to the design of new styles that later characterized what we call the Disco era. Disco music was as a result very popular. Many disco musicians gained great popularity during this era, and were highly influential as regards their 1970 clothing styles. Movies such as Saturday Night Fever showed the mood of the 70's clearly: people working all day everyday looking forward to Saturdays, to have fun and enjoy their youth.

The Punk Style

Punk emerged as an anarchist movement against the established government in a time of unemployment and low incomes. Those affected by these poor conditions in the urban area expressed their discomfort through the Punk movement.

The aim of the movement was to complain because the decisions of the government and the bad administration led them to live in poverty and misery. Punks wore shabby 1970 clothing. They used these clothing publicly to show they were poor and could not afford dressing decently.

This 1970 clothing style, however, soon became a trend. Even people in good financial conditions wore these clothes to suggest that they supported this movement because they had sympathy towards those who suffered. Many bands who wanted to convey this idea of discomfort also wore this type of 1970 clothing. Soon, thus, it became a cool clothes style that was related to music, youth and fun.

Although the concept was very much distorted, this 1970 clothing fashion was a good thing for the world of fashion in general. In fact, this 1970 clothing style was so influential and popular that it still remains today. We can still find stars and their fans wearing punk clothes. This style is mostly found in the rock music world and it is no longer seen as a symbol of rebellion against the government but as a symbol of a strong personality.

Other Fashions

Of course there are other fashions and trends that characterized the 70’s apart from the punk and the disco, such as psychedelic motifs and colors clothing. Clothes were supposed to be tight for both men and women. Mini skirts, which appeared in the 1960’s, were still highly fashionable. Farrah Fawcett-Majors was a very important figure in the 70’s who had great influence on the world of hair styles.
